Sample itinerary
Day by day
Day 1Arrive Joshimath
Drive from Rishikesh to Joshimath at 1,875m. Check in to the retreat guesthouse, a slow dinner, and an introductory session with your yoga teacher — intentions, what to expect, how the week will move. Early sleep.
Rishikesh pickup 7 am. Joshimath by evening.
Days 2–3Joshimath yoga mornings
Two full days at 1,875m. Morning yoga at sunrise on the rooftop terrace — the Auli cable car tower visible on the ridge, peaks above the treeline. Afternoons are yours: walk the Shankaracharya math, sit by the Alaknanda, or rest. Evening meditation as the light fades from the mountains.
2-hour morning practice 6 am. 1-hour evening sit 6 pm.
Days 4–5Gorson Bugyal trek days
Two days based from Auli at 3,049m. Morning yoga at altitude — the first session at altitude hits differently, your breath longer, your mind quieter. Afternoons are trekking: Gorson Bugyal is an open meadow at 3,056m used by shepherds and surrounded by oak, the Nanda Devi panorama unobstructed to the north-east. You cover 10–14 km each afternoon.
Cable car up and down both days. Trek gear provided.
Day 6Meditation day
No trek today. A full day of practice: sunrise yoga, pranayama, a guided meditation in the forest above Joshimath, afternoon journalling, and a final group sit at sunset. Optional silent afternoon for those who want it.
No structured activities after 3 pm. Silence optional.
Day 7Farewell — return to Rishikesh
Final morning practice. A long breakfast. The drive back to Rishikesh along the Alaknanda — the same road you came up, now familiar. You arrive by evening, a week older and noticeably slower.
Drop at Rishikesh. Departure from Haridwar/Dehradun arranged.
